Mr Bill VanderMeulen's Obituary
William Henry VanderMeulen, age 89, went to be with his Lord Friday evening, August 8, 2014 at the Poppen Residence, in the presence of his loving family. Bill was born September 18, 1924 to William and Jeanette (vandenToorn) VanderMeulen in Muskegon. He served his country in the U.S. Army Air Corp during WWII. On February 12, 1949, he married the former Arline Sietsema and she survives him. He was employed by Bennett Pump for 33 years. Bill was a member of Covenant Community Church where he served renovating the church building and Barney Maffett’s Coffee Shop. He enjoyed working in his yard, gardening and fixing things for family and friends. He also enjoyed golfing, camping and meeting his buddies for morning coffee; but most of all, he enjoyed spending time with his family. In addition to Arline, his wife of 65 years, Bill is survived by his sons, Mark (Julie) VanderMeulen and Jack (Jackie) VanderMeulen; 5 grandchildren, Jill (Derek) Osborne, Laura (Andy) Cole, Joel (Jacqueline) VanderMeulen, Jami VanderMeulen and Bryana (David Paseka) VanderMeulen; 9 great grandchildren, Dayton VanderMeulen, Mason and Nolan Osborne, Jordon and Eryn Cole, Drew, Ella, Annabelle, and Grant VanderMeulen; three nieces; and sister-in-law, Linette Damm. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Arthur and John (Carol) VanderMeulen. In accordance with Bill’s wishes, a private family graveside service has been held. There will be a CELEBRATION OF BILL’S LIFE on Tuesday, August 19, 2014 at Bella Maria (Oakridge Golf Course), 513 W. Pontaluna from 6-8 PM. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be made to Covenant Community Church or Harbor Hospice.
