Billie S. Strah's Obituary
Billie S. Strah, age 96, passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2025 at Trinity Health – Muskegon Hospital. She was born February 11, 1929 in Quitman, Mississippi to Harry R. and Mary V. (Pipen) Peel. Billie moved to Muskegon Heights with her parents when she was 9 months old and lived in Muskegon Heights for most of her childhood years. They moved to the Lakeside Neighborhood during her early teenage years and spent the rest of her life as a Lakesider, graduating from Muskegon High School in 1947. She married Michael A. Strah on May 2, 1952 in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on April 17, 2021. Billie was a longtime member of Lakeside United Methodist Church before its closing and later attended Lakeside Community Church. Billie’s first love was being a wife, mother and grandmother. She worked as a secretary for 20 years in the Pulp Mill Department at S.D. Warren Paper Mill before she retired in 1988. After retirement, Billie and Mike enjoyed spending time with their grandchildren as well as traveling to Myrtle Beach every February. She loved reading, cooking, and watching her TV shows and movies. Survivors include two children, Susan (Neal) Swigert, David (Kathy) Strah; two grandchildren, Jordan Strah, Shelby (Mike) Meyering; one great grandchild Charlotte Meyering; one sister, Carol (Bud) Bodenberg; and one sister-in-law, Arlene Strah. She was preceded in death by her husband, Mike Strah; her son, Steve Strah; her parents; her sister, Virginia Hotz; and infant sister, Mary Frances Peel. A private family service will be held at The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd, Muskegon, MI 49441. Interment will take place at Lakeside Cemetery.
