Bontje "Betty" Achterhoff's Obituary
Mrs. Bontje “Betty” Achterhoff, age 87, went to be with her Lord, Thursday evening, February 24, 2011. Betty was born June 17, 1923 to Cornelius and Jantne (Westra) Hunefeld in Detroit where she lived and worked until shortly after her marriage to Rolland H. Achterhoff on November 29, 1947. Rolland preceded her in death on September 29, 2006. Betty was a member of Bethany Christian Reformed Church and their couples club where she forged many lasting relationships with fellow members. She was a former member of the Women’s Division Chamber of Commerce. Betty was a wonderful mother and grandmother with a great sense of humor. She loved to play the piano and sing the old time hymns. Betty enjoyed Lake Michigan, rides around the ovals, walking along the channel and ice cream or TCBY. She will be greatly missed by her children Tim (Mary Lou) Achterhoff of North Muskegon, Carol (James) Achterhoff-Weber of Kalamazoo, Daniel (Bonnie Hendrick) Achterhoff of Muskegon and Ruth (Ric) Achterhoff-Aust of Rochester, MI; 8 grandchildren, David (Julie) Geyer, Matt Geyer, Kara (Bill) Nelson, Beth Achterhoff, Aaron Achterhoff, Jacob (Beth) Dykema, Simon (September) Dykema, Caleb (Cindy Beth) Davis-Dykema, 3 great-grandchildren, Avery and Drew Geyer, and Jack Simpson; many loving nieces and nephews. Along with Rolland, Betty was preceded in death by her grandson, Tyler Aust; a brother, Richard Hunefeld and her parents. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Monday, February 28, 2011 at Bethany Christian Reformed Church, 1105 Terrace St. with her pastor, Rev. David Sieplinga officiating. VISITATION will be 2-4 & 6-8 PM Sunday at Sytsema Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 737 Apple Avenue 231 726-5210. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be made to Bethany Christian Reformed Church or the Rolland H. Achterhoff Family Fund of the Community Foundation for Muskegon County.
