Brenda Rae Wei's Obituary
Brenda Rae (Curtice) Wei passed away on September 2, 2022, in Muskegon after a long battle with cancer.
Brenda was born in Fremont, Michigan on January 6, 1940, to Sheldon W. and Hazel V. (Purcey) Curtice.
In 1949, the family moved to Muskegon where she attended Michigan public schools. She had a lifelong interest in education: teaching elementary school from 1960-1964 (Laketon public schools), completing her Bachelor of Science degree in 1989, and working at various colleges and universities throughout her career. Post-retirement, she enjoyed working part-time for 9 years at the Hackley Public Library.
Brenda’s many additional interests included writing, photography, painting, music, and travel. She published many articles in different genres; especially about the places she traveled. She loved to discover new lighthouses and covered bridges. She sang, played piano, handbells, and violin. Brenda was also passionate about conservation of natural resources, and her dog Polar Bear whom she adored.
Preceding Brenda in death were her parents and brothers in law: Gustav Renas, and Jack R. Nelson. Brenda is survived by her beloved sisters: Janice Renas of Big Rapids and Marilyn Nelson of Muskegon; her children: Gregory, Jennifer, and Steven Wei, several grandchildren, and many dear friends.
Her Celebration of Life will be held at the Central United Methodist Church on Monday, September 19, at 1:00 PM. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment has taken place at Maple Grove Cemetery in Fremont. Through her longtime membership, Brenda found fellowship, community, and many dear friends.
