Bruce Dana Campbell's Obituary
Bruce Dana Campbell, age 69, of Spring Lake passed away on Friday, July 4, 2014 at Heartwood Lodge Hospice Residence. He was born on August 25, 1944 to Dana and Rena (Vandersys) Campbell in Grand Haven. Bruce had a charmed childhood. His grandparents lived on Spring Lake and he spent his summers swimming behind their house. His grandpa, Leon Campbell, was the first pharmacist in Spring Lake. Campbell’s Drug Store was located at Savidge and Jackson, which is now the home of Love INC. Bruce also enjoyed racing sailboats and spent many hours racing at the Spring Lake Yacht Club.
During the Vietnam War, Bruce proudly served his country in the U.S. Army. He married the former Henni A. Damhoff on September 9, 1966 in Grand Haven. Bruce was a Plant Manager and Production Supervisor at the Atco Rubber Company for 25 years and 7 of those years were spent in Springdale, Arkansas as Plant Manager. Both of their daughters, Jennifer and Stefanie, were born in Springdale, Arkansas. Many happy days were spent camping and enjoying their pontoon boat on Beaver Lake. Bruce also liked adventurous pursuits such as white water rafting on the Buffalo River. While in Arkansas, Bruce was a member of the Springdale Rotary Club and he was an elder at the First Presbyterian Church of Springdale. He also served as Quality Control Manager at Bastian Blessing Co. and as General Manager at Zeeland Industries. Bruce also was a General Manager at Zeeland Industries. He was a member at First Presbyterian Church of Grand Haven where he served on many committees and also served as an elder. Bruce was a former member of the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post #28. He enjoyed playing bridge, euchre, cooking, fishing, boating and camping on Beaver Island.
Bruce is lovingly remembered by his wife, Henni of 47 years; mother-in-law, Ann (Marv) Satter of Grand Haven, daughters, Jennifer Hislop of Chattanooga, Tennessee and Stefanie (Graham) Passey of Danville, California; grandchildren, Drew Campbell and Gavin James Passey; sister, Margaret (Al) Berg of Grand Haven, and sister-in-law, Shirley Shuman of Spring Lake. He was preceded in death by his parents; and brother, David Campbell.
A Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 PM Tuesday, November 25, 2014 at First Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Thomas Cook officiating.
