Burford Evans' Obituary
Burford W. Evans, age 90, of Muskegon (formerly of Grand Haven) passed away Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at the Heartwood Lodge Hospice Residence. He was born October 22, 1922 in Spring Arbor, MI to Harry and Mable (Enos) Evans. He married the former Irene Coe on January 20, 1944 in Jackson, Michigan, and she preceded him in death August 27, 2001.
Mr. Evans was a plank owner serving on the U.S.S. Lexington in the U.S. Navy during World War II and was a fireman first class. Mr. Evans had been a local resident most of his life. He was a member of The Salvation Army in Grand Haven and Muskegon, MI and Montgomery, Alabama, the Salvation Army “League of Mercy”, and was associated with “Youth Haven Ranch”.
Mr. Evans is survived by five daughters: Sandra Walters, of Montgomery, AL, Deborah (David) Otis of Lansing, MI, Luanne (Phillip) Fowler of Norton Shores, MI, Jeanine (Dennis) Kessler of Prattville, AL, Amy (Daniel) Preston of Norton Shores, MI; one son, Lawrence Evans of Prattville, AL; 17 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by 1 sister, Helen Jordan of Vicksburg, MI; and 1 brother, Lloyd Evans of Battle Creek, MI. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Wendy Belle Evans; brother, Glenn Evans; son-in-law, Elmer “Bud” Walters.
A funeral service for Mr. Evans will be held 10:00 AM Saturday, June 8, 2013 at The Salvation Army in Muskegon (1221 Shonat St., Muskegon, MI 49442) with Captain Dan Sawka officiating. Friends may meet the family from 6:30 to 9:00 PM Friday at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven. Interment will be 3:30 PM Saturday, in Rose Hill Cemetery in Eaton Rapids, MI. Memorial contributions in memory of Mr. Evans may be given to Youth Haven Ranch (http://www.youthhaven.org) or The Salvation Army (samuskegon.org).
