Burnell J. Bernie LaPointe's Obituary
Burnell J. LaPointe, age 81, passed away Sunday, July 28, 2019 at home. He was born on August 3, 1937 to Burnell E. and Hazel (Gardner) LaPointe in Muskegon. Bernie was a member of Our Lady of Grace Church. Prior to retiring in 2000, he worked for Muskegon Public Schools as a parapro for 22 years and he loved every minute of it. Bernie was also a printer and was involved with DeColores Movement. He enjoyed spending time with his family and bowling with friends. On September 26, 1980 he married Lee (Cory) Giddings and she survives him with 2 daughters, Dana (Tony) LaHaie and Kim Landis; and 1 sister, Karen (Roger) Fredericks. Bernie was also step-dad to the Overly children, Terri Brewer, Mark Overly, and Randy & Lisa Overly; step-dad to the Giddings children, Colleen & Rick Morse, Mike & Danette Giddings, Kelly & Chip Gerard, Kara & Jim Bowen, Don & Kathy Giddings. He was blessed with 25 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and 1 sister, Jackie (Ed) Fritz. The family would like to extend a special thank you to niece and caregiver Nadine Ritchie. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Friday, August 2, 2019 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church (451 S. Getty St.) with Rev. Fr. Michael P. Olson presiding. Visitation will be held 6-8 PM Thursday at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 E Apple Ave, Muskegon, MI 49442. Interment will take place at Egelston Township Cemetery.
