Mr. Burton "Burt" Peterson's Obituary
Mr. Burton Peterson, age 82, went to glory on Sunday, September 20, 2015. He passed peacefully with his family at his side in the early morning hours. He was born at home in Muskegon on April 18, 1933 to William and Myrtle (Peterson) Peterson and was a lifetime resident of the area. Burt served in the U.S. Naval Reserves and graduated from Muskegon Community College. On September 6, 1957, he married the former Sandra Weenum in Muskegon. They were blessed to share 58 wonderful years together. Burt retired in 1995 from Muskegon Tool Industries, where he worked as a draftsman and chief tool designer. Burt was a member of Fellowship Reformed Church, where he served faithfully as deacon and an elder, and loved singing his praises to the Lord for over 50 years in the choir. He was known affectionately as the candy man by many of the children of the church. A fun loving guy, he amassed a large Mickey Mouse collection, which he took great pride in showing off and sharing with his grandchildren. He took great joy in his five grandchildren and his great grandson and he enjoyed attending their sporting, school and special events. He was a big fan of Oakridge Eagles football, and was a dedicated fan of the Detroit Tigers and Lions.
After retirement, he delivered meals to shut-ins through the Meals-on-Wheels program. He had a strong love of the Lord and delighted in sharing his faith with those that were on his delivery route. He was also known to deliver a joke or two along the way. Along with Sandy, he enjoyed trips abroad to many exotic and famous places. His paradise was his summer home on Wolf Lake, where he enjoyed cool breezes, 4th of July fireworks, and fishing/boating on his pontoon with family and friends.
A heartfelt thank you is extended from the family to the staff and residents of the “Agape Home at the Blueberry Fields” and “Heartland Hospice”.
SURVIVORS include his wife, Sandy; three boys, Jeff (Tammy) Peterson, Eric (Karin) Peterson, Kurt Peterson; five grandchildren, Cassandra (Greg) Loveland, Alyssa Peterson and fiancé Matt Dilley, Luke (Kelly) Peterson, Caydn Peterson and Baylee Peterson; Great grandson Isaac Loveland; two sisters, Ardyce Wolfe, Amy Hodson and brother-in-law, Bob Hansbrough.
