Byron Statton Chapman's Obituary
Byron Statton Chapman, age 93, of Spring Lake passed away Wednesday, October 21, 2020, at home. He was born April 13, 1927, in Grand Haven to William and Ethel L. (Harris) Chapman, and married Nancy Ann DeWitt on May 10, 1952, in Grand Haven. Nancy preceded him in death on March 19, 2013.
Byron served his country in the Navy during WWII and Korea. Byron worked as a traffic manager for forty years, at E.H. Sheldon and Shaw Walker. Byron was a member of The Charles A. Conklin American Legion Post # 28, the Muskegon Traffic Club, and former member of First Reformed Church (Christ Community Church) and served as a Sunday school teacher and deacon. He loved hunting, fishing, gardening, swimming, boating and water skiing with his kids and grandchildren.
He is lovingly remembered by his three daughters: Cindy (Dan) Zatarga, Glenda (Tom) Adams and Sherry (Dennis) Sill; son, Bradford (Carmen) Chapman; nine grandchildren: Carrie (Justin) Grill, Steven (Kalyn) Zatarga, Jarrah (Josh) Latz, Rob (Tiffany Wirtz) Adams, Jake (Megan Oehrli) Adams, Katie (Mike Mitchell) Sill, Ashley (Chadd) Sult, Kevin Sill and Veronique Chapman; eight great-grandchildren: Noah, Daniel and Hannah Grill, Mia Zatarga, Brady and Leighton Latz and Matilda and Roselyn Sult; and special niece and caregiver Linda (Jeff) Hamm. He was preceded in death by his brother, Glen Chapman and two sisters, Jean (Dudley) Olson and Marian (Frank) Kurburski.
A private family funeral for Byron will be held at The VanZantwick Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 620 Washington Ave, Grand Haven, MI 49417. Interment will be in Spring Lake Cemetery. Memorials to Hospice of North Ottawa Community or The Charles A. Conklin American Legion Post # 28 are appreciated.
