Byron C. McCallum's Obituary
Byron Charles McCallum, age 82, passed away on Friday, August 4, 2023, at his home in Rockford, MI. Byron was born in Gould City, MI, on January 15, 1941, to Amos and Ida Mae (Cassidy) McCallum. He graduated from Muskegon High School and went on to proudly serve in the U.S. Navy. On October 6, 1973, he married the former Patricia Belrose. Byron worked as a computer programmer/systems analyst for 40 years, retiring in 1999. He had a talent for problem solving and self-teaching. Whenever his employer received new programming manuals, he would digest them and explain them to everyone else. He had a great work ethic, which he passed on to his children.
Byron loved jigsaw puzzles, as well as Sudoku and Crossword puzzles. His mind was full of random knowledge. He once built an AM/FM radio out of an assortment of parts he had salvaged from other machines. He enjoyed staying active, especially golfing, playing baseball, bowling, kayaking, biking and skunking his wife at cribbage.
Byron came to love the Lord through the hearing of God’s word under the preaching of pastor Ed Tafilowski and the mentoring of Joe Wright, his small group leader, at Foothills Fellowship Church (his home church) in Littleton Colorado.
Byron will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Patricia McCallum; three children: Jim (Jen) McCallum, Sara (Karl) Rohrbaugh, and Ann (Steve) Karich; 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; four brothers: Neil (Judy K.) McCallum, Ken (Carolyn) McCallum, James (Jennifer) McCallum, and Alan (Wanda) McCallum; sister, Judy Ann Wolven; and brother in-law, Peter Williams and his wife’s family. He was preceded in death by his parents, Amos and Ida McCallum; brother, Harry McCallum; and sister, Mary Beth Williams. Visitation will take place at 12:00 PM and a MEMORIAL SERVICE at 12:30 PM on September 9, 2023, at Rockford Baptist Church (221 Courtland St, Rockford, MI 49341), with a luncheon to follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a memorial contribution to Rockford Baptist Church or Foothills Fellowship Church, (179 W Weaver Dr., Littleton, Colorado 80123).
