Dr. C. Robert Alkema MD's Obituary
Dr. Robert Alkema, MD, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2020 after a lengthy illness, in Whitehall. He was born July 8, 1949 to Cornelius and Cora Alkema in Grand Rapids. He moved to Muskegon after graduating from Wayne State with his medical degree and completing his residency at Buffalo’s Children Hospital. Dr. Alkema was a well-known pediatrician in Muskegon for almost 40 years before retiring. He lived for adventure and with a courageous spirit. He loved reading and studying the Bible and shared his love for Christ with others. He was a motorcycle enthusiast, loved windsurfing and living on Lake Michigan. He enjoyed all kinds of music and going to the symphony. He lived and died courageously. On December 31, 2003 Rob married Theresa J. Fry, and she survives him along with his daughter, Elizabeth; and his son, David; 2 grandchildren, Bekky and Gracie; 1 brother, Daniel (Bonnie); and his niece, Jessica; and nephew, Christian. Visitation at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444 will be Monday, November 2, from 5-8 PM. Masks are required. Due to new Covid restrictions, a private family funeral will be held. Contributions in memory of Dr. Alkema may be made to the Harbor Hospice Foundation or Muskegon Pregnancy Services.
