C. Jay Wright's Obituary
C. Jay Wright, age 76, of Grand Haven passed away Friday, December 13, 2013, at Spectrum Butterworth Hospital in Grand Rapids. He was born in Eldon, Iowa to George C. and Ruth V. (Israel) Wright. He married the former Joanne Atkin on August 23, 1958 in Clio, Michigan.
Jay was a graduate of Michigan Tech University where he earned his Master’s Degree in Forestry. He taught at Alpena Community College for 14 years. He was employed in Forestry Management and in 1992 when he moved to Grand Haven he worked for Zelenka Nursery. Jay was proud to be a 32nd Degree Mason and Shriner in the Alpena-Hopper Lodge # 199 F. & A.M. where he served as past master. Jay was a proud member and supporter of Boy Scouts of America for 70 years, where he attained the prestigious honor of Eagle Scout and the Silver Beaver for volunteering. After retiring he and Joanne enjoyed hosting Japenese exchange students and traveling abroad. He also loved rescue dogs.
Jay is lovingly remembered by his wife, Joanne; daughter, Catherine (Dale) Horowski of Ludington; son, Steven (Sheryl) Wright of Lachine, Michigan; five grandchildren: Allison, Dane, and Meredith Horowski, Tyler and McKenzie Wright; and his sister, Sue Loomis of Traverse City. He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Ruth.
A memorial service for Jay will be held at 12:30 p.m. Saturday, April 5, 2014, at the Masonic Temple in Clio, MI. Memorials to the Boy Scouts of America are appreciated. Share memories with the family at their online guest book at www.vbkfuneralhome.com.
