Camella J. "Cam" Gilmore's Obituary
Camella J. “Cam” Gilmore, age 77, passed away on Tuesday, November 19, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on March 22, 1947, to Charles and Alice (Dickey) Smith in Walhalla, MI. She graduated from Mason County Central High School in 1965 and continued her education at Gale Institute where she earned her associates degree. On June 11, 1966, she married the love of her life, Joseph C. Gilmore Jr. in Scottville, MI. Together they cherished 58 years full of love and laughter. The couple soon made their way to Muskegon, which they have called home since 1966.
She was a proud mom dedicating her earlier years to raising her children, maintaining her home and supporting her loving husband. Cam then dedicated a few years working as a salesclerk at Fashion Bug before retiring in 1990. Cam enjoyed drag racing, sewing, knitting and playing her computer games. She had a passion for cooking, camping and adding to her infamous pig collection. Above all, her family was her world especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Cam had a radiant and caring spirit that added to her beautiful smile she greeted you with daily.
Cam will lovingly be remembered by her husband, Joseph Gilmore Jr.; two children, Tammi (Earl) Schaub and Jean Strandberg; four grandchildren, Sara (Rich) Hancock, Amanda (Chris) Stanfield, Joseph (Abbi Delgaldo) Strandberg and Nicole (Tyler) England; five great-grandchildren, Royce and Sydney Hancock and Eli, Karson and Fletcher England; sister, Dottie Gambee; sisters-in-law, Maureen Smith and Nancy (Ken) Van Dyke; two brothers-in-law, Gerald Baird and John Matthews; as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins and nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, Charles (Alice) Smith; brother, Charles Smith; three sisters, Donna Matthews, Bette Baird and Leona Smith; in-laws, Joseph Sr. (S. “LaVerle”) Gilmore; brother-in-law, William Gilmore; and pup, Corkie.
A Memorial Gathering will be held from 1-4:00 PM on Saturday, November 23, 2024, at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442.
