I got to know Carl more when I joined Banjo Club. He was an essential part of the band. I was amazed at his musical ability to hear a tune and play it. Carl was a lot of fun - he always had a smile on his face, and he made me feel very welcomed to the group. Carl will forever have a spot in my heart as one of those people that cross our paths on our life's journey who make it a joyful adventure. He will be missed by many.

Mr. Johnson as I called him, was my Mother Gloria's boss for 3 decades. He was always so nice to me. I always remember going to work with my Mom as a child and he would whistle and be so happy and pleasant all of the time. He didn't care that I was there because there was a half day of school or whatever was going on. He always asked if I had enought things to draw with or if I needed anything. He was so nice. He also let my Mom leave work if myself or my brother had an event that she needed to attend. Sometimes he would take us to lunch at Tony's. I thought that was really something. What a nice man. His office on Muskegon Heights on Broadway was always so clean. It was spotless. He was a great man and I am proud that I knew him. Sincerely-Karen Russell-Thomson
