Carl J. Schornack's Obituary
Carl J. Schornack, age 87, met his Heavenly Father on Thursday, July 13, 2023. He was born on March 24, 1936, to August and Eleanor Schornack in Warren, MI. Carl dedicated 18 years to the City of Muskegon, where he worked as an assistant financial director before retiring in 1999. On August 3, 1962, he married the love of his life, Donna L. McElmurry in Grosse Point, MI. Together they cherished 48 years full of love and laughter. He was a faithful servant of his Lord and a longtime member of Grand Haven Seventh-day Adventist Church. Carl was active in the church blessing them with his musical talents and also took on the role of a pathfinder leader inspiring the youth. He loved all things outdoors, fishing, golfing, tennis and swimming in Lake Michigan especially in December. Carl was blessed with a green thumb and was an avid gardener. He was a talented opera singer and part of the Civic Theatre, performing in Detroit and the Frauenthal Center in Muskegon. He had a passion for square dancing and was part of the High Neighbor square dance club. Carl had a passion for cooking and perfecting his dishes. He will always be remembered for putting up a good fight! He will truly be missed by many. He is survived by his children, Joann Perry, Michael (Elizabeth) Schornack, Ann (Andrew) Chen and Karla (Phillip) Wolf; foster children, Doris (Richard) Nichols and Susie Longworthy; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; cousin, Marilyn Norwardski; brother-in-law, Donald Smolinski; and cherished family friend that was like a son to Carl, Brandt (Laura) Krause. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Donna L. Schornack; son, Mark Schornack; and sisters, Christine Smolinski and Connie Adamczyk. A Celebration of Life will be at 11:00 AM on Friday, July 21, 2023, at the Grand Haven Seventh-day Adventist Church, 15051 177th Ave, Grand Haven, MI 49417.
