Carla Jean Bratsburg's Obituary
Carla Jean Bratsburg, a Muskegon native who was born September 20, 1950, died at home on Sunday, Oct. 15, 2023, following a brief illness.
Baptized as a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, she never strayed too far from her Lakeside home. She went to Trinity Lutheran School for grades K-8, to Bunker Junior High for 9th grade, and graduated from Muskegon High School in 1968.
In January 1969, she was hired as a clerical worker at Shaw Walker. About 20 years later, she transferred into plant production work for Shaw Walker’s Knoll Group, where she completed almost 20 more years of service before taking early retirement.
Carla married Greg Bratsburg at Trinity in August of 1993. He died in 2003. Her parents, Carl and Martha Sircher, died in 1995 and 2004, respectively, and stepbrother Clarence TerBorg died in March of 2023. She is survived by her sister, Nancy Fierstien, brother-in-law John Fierstien, their sons (Steven and Ryan), sister-in-law Claire TerBorg and her daughters (Michelle Spencer and Cynthia Brown).
This generous spirit, who rejoiced wholeheartedly every time the family gathered or a new branch sprouted on the family tree, is bound to be missed by other cousins and their spouses, and the friends she met through church activities and water aerobics classes at the Y.
Services for Carla will be held 11:00 AM Friday, October 20, 2023 at Trinity Lutheran Church with Pastor Paul C. Appold officiating. Burial took place in Lakeside Cemetery next to her husband, Greg.
To make memorial contributions in her honor, please consider supporting the City of Muskegon’s improvement plans at Margaret Drake Elliott Park, the work of the American Cancer Society, or Trinity Lutheran Church.
