Carleton Wright Jr's Obituary
Mr. Carleton “Carl” Wright Jr, age 95, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by friends and family, on Saturday, December 28, 2019. He was born on May 22, 1924 to Carleton and Almira (Sicard) Wright Sr in Muskegon. Carl proudly served his country during WWII in the U. S. Army Air Corps where he was a radio transmitter technician in Germany and France. After his honorable discharge in 1945, he returned to Muskegon to marry the former Alberta Kolkema on September 2, 1948. Carl took it upon himself to learn to fly while in the military and continued his aviation career in Western Michigan, eventually owning and operating Wright and Brewer Flying Service as well as Community Air of Fremont. He helped co-found Wings of Mercy in Holland in 1991 and was an FAA examiner. Carl and Berta were members of First Free Methodist Church of Norton Shores and enjoyed spending their winters in Florida. Carl’s love of his Lord was widely known by all. Carleton is survived by his wife of 71 years, Alberta; children, Carleton (Cynthia) Wright, Richard (Ann) Wright, Sandy Judd-Tyler (Dan VanderMyde), Roger Wright and Carol (Jonathan) Huffman; 10 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild; and special friend, Bill Mills. He was preceded in death by his brother, Raymond Wright; daughters-in-law, Holly (Kelley) Wright and Sandy P. (Brooks)Wright; and son-in-law, John Tyler. At his request, cremation has already taken place and a Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Arrangements by The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S.
