Carl John Olson's Obituary
Mr. Carl John Olson, age 87, passed away Thursday evening, June 30, 2005 at his home. He was born October 3, 1917 in Muskegon to Carl and Lillian (Beamer) Olson and lived his entire life in the area. He served in the U.S. Army at the end of WWII. On July 3, 1937, he married the former Lucille M. Holtz in Muskegon. Prior to retirement in 1975, he worked 42 years as a machinist for Teledyne-Continental Motor Co. and was very active in Union Affairs, serving in many capacities. He was a member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church and had served many years as a lector at St. Jean’s Catholic Church. He was a charter member of McGraft Park Seniors and was very proud to be an American Red Cross Certified Lifeguard. SURVIVORS include his wife of 67 years, Lucille M. Olson; 6 children, Janet Anderz of Muskegon, Rev. Fr. Michael P. Olson of Muskegon, Jack (Sandy) Olson of California, Tony (Mary) Olson of Muskegon, Sherri (Peter) Roberts of Novi, Terri Lowing of Glendale, AZ; 17 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and 7 great-great grandchildren; 1 brother, Robert Olson of Muskegon; 1 sister, Jackie (Bill) Holloway of Oklahoma; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his son, Carl Tom (and wife, Nancy) Olson, 2 grandsons, Bobby and Craig Anderz, and his parents. THE FUNERAL LITURGY will be celebrated 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 5, 2005 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church. VISITATION with his family will be 4-6 PM Sunday at The Walburn Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., (231) 759-8565. Visitation will also be held one hour prior to Mass, 10-11 AM Tuesday at church. ENTOMBMENT will take place at St. Mary’s Mausoleum. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be made to Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church Memorial Fund or Hospice of Muskegon-Oceana.
