Carol Ann Balcom's Obituary
Mrs. Carol Ann Balcom, age 83, passed away on Monday, March 24, 2025 in Detroit, Michigan. She was born in Huntington Park, California on July 4, 1941 to Harry and Rose (Barta) Morsefield. Carol Ann graduated from Antelope Valley Junior College in 1961 and moved to Michigan in 1973. On May 17, 1980, Carol Ann married William R. Balcom and they enjoyed 44 years of marriage. Carol Ann dedicated 19 years of service to the Ottawa County Road Commission before retiring in 2004. Prior to that, she spent 21 years as a supervisor at General Telephone. Carol Ann and her husband, Bill, were devoted patrons and longtime supporters of the Muskegon Big Reds and Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp. In addition to her community involvement, Carol Ann volunteered at Noah Project and served as past-president and active board member of the Friends of Hackley Library. In recognition of her volunteer work, she was awarded the prestigious Charles H. Hackley Commendation for Service to the Humanities in 2022. Outside of her civic duties, Carol Ann enjoyed an active lifestyle, indulging in hobbies like hunting, fishing, birdwatching, and reading. She also cherished the time she spent at the family's property in Baldwin. She is survived by her husband, Bill; stepchildren, Susan (David) Weatherbee, Jeff Balcom, and Patricia (Kim) Gradisher; granddaughters, Courtney and Shelby Weatherbee; sisters, Doris Sadler and Harriett (Brian) Speegle; brother-in-law, Donald Balcom; and nieces, Debbie (Chris) Costa and Laura (Steven) Jump. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Rose Morsefield; parents-in-law, Ralph and Edith Balcom; brother-in-law, Randy Sadler; and sister-in-law, Ann Louise White. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 2:00 PM Tuesday, April 1, 2025 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444.
