Carol V. Eberly's Obituary
Carol V. Eberly, 90, passed away Monday, August 8, 2022, in Grand Haven. She was born October 29, 1931, to Allen W. and Amert B. (Culver) Varner in Guthrie County, Iowa. Carol’s family lived in Minnesota and Colorado before settling in W. Michigan in the 1940’s. Carol attended Muskegon High School and worked at Zephyr Refinery and Shaw-Box. Carol shared a love of words and language with her family and friends, often working through the longest and most difficult word puzzle books available. Her pantry was always stocked with home canned foods and preserves, and her pies were legendary at church banquets. Carol’s spark and love were lavished on her husband, sons and their wives, nieces and nephews, and the many grandchildren and great-grandchildren who were blessed to have Grandma Carol in their lives. Carol created lasting memories and taught persistence and generosity by her example. Knitting, quilting, craft projects, and making Christmas cookies were some of her favorite activities, all to share with others. One of her biggest projects included making a cross stitch sampler for each of her Grandchildren. Carol held strong Christian beliefs, attending the Fruitport Reformed Church and later the Church of the Living Christ in Fremont. Her devotion to her faith has encouraged and fostered the faith of her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She met her future husband John R. Eberly Jr. through a Christian youth group, and they were married May 11, 1956. John preceded her in death on August 15, 2013. Survivors include two sons: John R. (Maureen) Eberly III, Samuel E. (Cheri) Eberly; 14 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren; one sister: Delia (Gerald) Meyers. She was also preceded in death by one sister: Lou Elema. The funeral service will be Thursday, August 11, at 2:00 PM at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Interment will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Contributions in memory of Mrs. Eberly may be made to Veterans of Foreign Wars.
