Carol L Marcil's Obituary
SERVICE INFORMATION UPDATE
DUE TO A POWER OUTAGE AT CHURCH, THE SERVICE FOR CAROL HAS BEEN MOVED TO 11AM WEDNESDAY, JULY 17 AT CALVIN CHURCH. VISITATION WITH THE FAMILY WILL BE 1 HOUR PRIOR TO THE SERVICE ON WEDNESDAY.
Carol L. Marcil, age 82, left her earthly home while in the arms of her daughter and awoke in the arms of her Savior and eternal home on Monday, February 26, 2024. She was born on September 9, 1941 in Fremont, Michigan to John and Cornelia (Klassen) Luchies. Carol was a registered nurse, graduating first from the Hackley Hospital School of Nursing and later returning to be a nursing instructor and then Ferris State University. She worked at Hackley Hospital for many years as head nurse of the Ortho/Neuro floor before moving to Hackley Visiting Nurses then back to Hackley Hospital as Relief House Supervisor and officially retiring in 2008. She also served as a volunteer at Hackley Hospital in the Cherry Guild Gift Shop. She was adored as a boss, co-worker and as a nursing instructor. She loved helping those who wanted to become a nurse fulfill their dream and helping those who were already a nurse, become better. During her many hospitalizations, Carol’s favorite and most looked forward to times was when student nurses were assigned to her. She loved talking about nursing with them and many would come back to see her when they knew she was readmitted. Carol was a longtime member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church and loved to volunteer whether in the office or working in the kitchen, she always looked forward to those days and helping however she could.
Carol learned her impeccable work ethic from early childhood, growing up and working on her parent’s farm, along with her sisters, and she was born with a selfless heart; eager to serve and give to others and that continued until she was called home. Her faith always remained forefront and never wavered, no matter the circumstances or heartbreak. She faced each heartbreak with faith, grace, courage and love.
She loved her family with a devotion that cannot be put into words. She would do anything to protect them or to help them. She had a hysterical sense of humor and loved to laugh to the point of tears. She will always be known as “Fun Sized Grandma" to her precious granddaughters and loved them beyond measure along with the rest of her loved ones.
She was a University of Michigan supporter through and through and along with her husband Phil, had season tickets to Michigan Football for many, many years as well as to local hockey and football. She loved sports and would always have a sporting event on tv, especially if Michigan was one of the opponents. She also loved to travel and went on numerous trips and cruises alongside her Phil who always held her hand no matter where they were.
On June 15, 1974 she married Philip Marcil and together celebrated 47 years of devoted and loving marriage before Phil preceded her in death on April 16, 2022. Carol was also preceded in death by her son, David Marcil in 2006; her parents, John and Cornelia; brother-in-law, Earl Bouwer; and nephew, Steven Schuitema.
SURVIVORS include her adoring, proud and devoted daughter, Kimberly (David) Edlund; daughter-in-law, Kimberly Marcil; granddaughters, Kylie and Emma Marcil; bonus granddaughter, Kelly Edlund; sisters, Marlene (Donald) Oosterhouse, and Nancy Bouwer; adored caretaker, Kathy Wilks; and many dear and beloved friend and family members.
Carol was beautiful inside and out and to know her was to love her wholeheartedly. The void and depth of her loss takes our breath away, but we rejoice knowing that she is finally healthy and whole, walking again and with Christ Jesus, her husband, son and loved ones who have gone before her, but we cannot wait until the time comes to all be reunited in Heaven.
MEMORIAL SERVICES for Carol will be11 AM Wednesday, July 17, 2024 at Calvin Christian Reformed Church (973 W. Norton Ave) with Pastor Mark Milkamp officiating. Visitation with the family will be 1 hour prior to the service, from 10-11 AM at church. Memorial Contributions to Calvin Church Building Fund, or Muskegon Community College Nursing Scholarship through the Muskegon Community Foundation will be appreciated.
The family requests those attending Carol's Memorial Service wear something blue in honor of her favorite color.
