Carol Laura Norton's Obituary
Carol Laura Norton, age 85, passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2022, at the Poppen Residence of Harbor Hospice. She was born on December 15, 1936, to Clifford and Hazel (Gould) Cooper in Muskegon. Carol was a gifted seamstress and quilter who made many stunning quilts throughout her life. Some of her hobbies included gardening, quilting, volunteering at Miss Michigan pageant for many years. She belonged to the American legion, Fraternal Order of Eagles, and Tatra Hall. Carol is survived by her children, Debra (David) Martin, Bill (Sally) Leonard, Jr., Jeffrey Leonard (Jeanne Hitts), Alan (Connie) Leonard, Christine (Danny) Dalton, Tom (Gay) Norton; 18 grandchildren; 41 great grandchildren, and 4 great great grandchildren and brother, David Cooper; and many nieces and nephews, and special friends Joyce Forbes, Barb Shepherd, Connie Wanerus, Mikey Ann and Ken Olmstead, and quilting friends Belinda, Jan and Susie. She was preceded in death by her parents; spouses; Billy Leonard, Sr., Gordan Pearsall, Clifford Norton; son, Kevin Leonard; sisters, LaRaine Vanderware, Dortha Wheeler, Elaine Cox, LaNola Welch, Barbara Smith, Louella Van Dyke, Doris Parrott, DeLoris DeVries Hazel Norfolk, Jacklyn Ferris. A MEMORIAL VISITATION for Carol will take place on Sunday, May 22, 2022, from 1:00 - 3:00 PM at The Lee Chapel of the Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St. Norton Shores, MI 49444. A MEMORIAL SERVICE for Carol will take place on Monday, May 23, 2022, at 11:00 AM at the funeral home with visitation taking place on hour prior. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery. For a more lasting memory, donations in Carol’s name can be made to either the American Cancer Society, the Harbor Hospice Foundation, or the Child Abuse Council – Muskegon.
