Carol Ann Sharkey's Obituary
Carol Ann Sharkey, age 72, of Muskegon and formerly of Grand Haven passed away Wednesday, November 7, 2007, at her home. She was born November 13, 1934, in Muskegon to Otto William and Elizabeth (McShannock) Fricke. On May 5, 1956, she married Kenneth L. Sharkey in Spring Lake, and he preceded her in death on February 24, 1987.
Carol lived most of her life in the Tri-Cities area before moving to Muskegon three years ago. She had worked as a nurse’s aide at a local hospital and also provided private duty in-home care. Carol was known as “the sewing lady” by her friends and neighbors, and she enjoyed making porcelain dolls and doing crafts. She also loved Clover Bar pizza. Most of all, she enjoyed being a loving grandmother.
Survivors include two daughters, Elizabeth Mary (Dewey) VerPlank of Spring Lake and Katherine Ann (Ted Spaulding) Gould of Hesperia; three sons: Kenneth (Sandy) Sharkey of Grand Haven, Otto William “Joe” (Kathleen) Sharkey of Spring Lake, and John (Kelly) Sharkey of Norton Shores; seven grandchildren: Tom (Jessica) Gould, Ken Sharkey, Lori (Bryan) Mulcahy, Bobby VerPlank, Brandon Sharkey, Brooke Lynn Sharkey, and Kelci Marie Taipalus; one great-grandchild, Ryan Thomas Gould; a brother, Otto (Cheryl) Fricke of Grand Haven; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Norma Lind, and a granddaughter, Katie Ann Gould.
The service for Carol will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 13, 2007, at Lakeshore Baptist Church in Grand Haven with Rev. Wayne Muri officiating. Friends may meet the family 6-8 p.m. Monday, November 12, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven and one hour prior to the service and following the service on Tuesday at the church.
