Carole M. VandenBerg's Obituary
Carole Marie VandenBerg, age 79, passed away in Twin Lake, MI, on Monday, April 13, 2026, surrounded by her family. Carole was born on March 2, 1947, in Kalamazoo, MI, to Calwood and Doris (Bos) Schuyler. She graduated from Kalamazoo Central High School and went on to receive her bachelor's degree from Western Michigan University. She was a teacher for many years at Holton Elementary School, retiring in 2007. On September 18, 1971, she married William VandenBerg, and the two of them spent 36 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death in 2007. She was a longtime member at Holton Methodist Church, where she was very active in the church community. Carole loved to stay busy, especially spending time with her family and friends. She loved to travel, and over the years her and Bill had visited nearly all the National Parks in the U.S. Carole was incredibly supportive of all the people around her, especially her family. She was very proud of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was very active in all of their lives over the years.
Carole will be lovingly remembered by her three daughters: Jennifer (George) Chambers, Amy (Greg) Bonebrake, and Laura (Scott) Eckelkamp; four grandchildren: Alena Follett, Serena (Jace) Neville, Zander Carson, and Tyler Eckelkamp; three great-grandchildren: Oakland Guinon, Leland Follett, and Haven Neville; three siblings: Kathy Brown, Sherry (Jim) Smith, and Larry (Jane) Schuyler; and many nieces, nephews, and other extended relatives. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, and her brother in-law, Bob Brown.
A Funeral Service will be held for Carole at 11:00 AM on Monday, April 20, 2026, at Holton Methodist Church, 9530 Holton-Duck Lake Rd, Holton, MI 49425. Visitation will be held from 1:00 PM – 3:00 PM on Sunday, April 19, 2026, at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave, Muskegon, MI, 49442, as well as an hour prior to the service on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Holton Methodist Church or to Trinity Health at Home.
