Carole J. Heck's Obituary
Ms. Carole J. Heck, age 67, walked through Heaven’s gate Sunday afternoon, November 29, 2009. She was born March 1, 1942 in Muskegon to John and Alma (Fordham) Heck and lived her life in the Muskegon and Whitehall areas. She was a graduate of Whitehall High School. Carole was among the first disabled students to attend Central Michigan University, opening the doors of awareness for others to follow. She graduated from CMU in 1964. Carole was a teacher for the Muskegon Heights public school system where she proudly taught for 30 years. She was a member of Unity Reformed Church and also attended New Life Community Church. Carole served on the Board of the Michigan Polio Network for several years, was active with the Disability Awareness Council for Independent Living in past years, and was a member of the Muskegon Chapter for the National Association of the Physically Handicapped. She also belonged to the Pioneers Camping Club, where she enjoyed many years of camping. Carole enjoyed traveling, shopping, scrap booking, and spending time with family and friends. SURVIVORS include 2 step-sisters, Marilyn DeCair of Yucca Valley, CA, Thelma Clements of Montague; several nieces, nephews, cousins; aunt, Emma Fordham; her two special caregivers for many years, Cleon Nulf and Tana Harris; and her “four legged babies”, Tucker and Pepper. Carole was preceded in death by her parents and brothers, Alan and Roger Heck. Though she will be greatly missed, she is now “walking” with her Savior. SERVICES will be held 1:00 PM Thursday at Unity Reformed Church (1521 Porter Rd.) with Pastor’s Kyle DeYoung and Todd Bush officiating. Burial will be in Oakhurst Cemetery in Whitehall.
