Carolyn A. Black's Obituary
Mrs. Carolyn A. Black, age 84, passed away February 19, 2010 after a lengthy illness. She was born Carolyn Anne Bennorth on December 7, 1925 in Elgin, IL to Carroll and Ruth (Bruns) Bennorth. She met Warren Richard Black at First Methodist Church in Evanston, IL while attending Northwestern University and on November 6, 1945 she married him in Elgin, IL. They would later live in Beaumont, TX, Arlington Heights, IL, East Grand Rapids and then Norton Shores, MI. The Blacks were married for 64 years. Carolyn was a devoted Christian and lived out that devotion by leading church youth, children and adults, by participation in multiple work missions throughout the United States, by active participation in the United Methodist Women, by sharing her musical gifts, and by sharing her love and compassion with countless others. She was frequently involved in leadership positions in the United Methodist Church and most recently was a member of Community United Methodist Church of North Muskegon. Carolyn was an outstanding wife, mother and grandmother. She was survived by her husband Warren; her children Kathryn (David) Smith of Pinckney, MI, David (Bonnie) Black of Martinez, GA, Carleton (Barbara) Black of Muskegon, MI, and Lowell (Jodie) Black of Chesterton, IN; eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers Ralph and Robert Bennorth, and her sister Darlene Bogner. VISITATION will be held 2:00 – 5:00 PM Sunday (today), February 21, 2010 at The Lee Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100 MEMORIAL SERVICE will be 1:00 PM Monday at Community United Methodist Church in North Muskegon, Rev. Robert Lynch officiating. Memorial contributions are requested in lieu of flowers to The Upper Room Walk To Emmaus, UMCOR –United Methodist Committee on Relief, or Hospice of North Ottawa Community.
