Carrie Elizabeth Sumerix's Obituary
Mrs. Carrie Elizabeth Sumerix, age 82, passed away Tuesday morning, August 6, 2019 at her home in Muskegon after a 3-year battle with cancer. She was born in Traverse City, Michigan on December 9, 1936 to Glen and Rophena (Hill) Fitzgerald. On July 24, 1954, Carrie married Gerald G. Sumerix, Sr. and they recently celebrated 65 years of marriage. Carrie was a member of the Fruitport Eagles Women’s Auxiliary. She enjoyed camping, dancing, and country music. Most importantly, Carrie loved her family and especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband, Gerald; three children, Rophena (Michael) Rau, Carol (Leo) Parker, and Gerald (Cheryl) Sumerix, Jr.; five grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and sister, Dottie Gagnon. She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Geraldine Hoagland; grandson, Gerald G. Sumerix, III; four brothers and two sisters. SERVICES will be 1:00 PM Friday, August 9, 2019 at The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442 with Rev. Bill Dye officiating. VISITATION will be one hour prior to her service. Burial will be in Egleston Township Cemetery.
