Catherine (Landers) Platt's Obituary
Mrs. Catherine M. Platt, age 78, went home to the Lord early Friday morning following a courageous battle with cancer. Catherine was born in Muskegon on February 15, 1929 to Laurence and Margaret (Johnson) Hendrick. She was graduated from Muskegon Hts. High in 1946 and went on to receive her B.A. in social work from Albion College and her M.A. in Education from W.M.U. She was a proud member of Delta Kappa Gamma Sorority. She married Mr. Harold F. Landers, Sr. in 1951 and following 45 years of marriage Harold preceded her in death in 1996. Catherine was a teacher at Fruitport Community Schools for 26 years, retiring in 1986. She enjoyed playing in her golf league and in her younger years was an accomplished softball player. Catherine was a faithful member of Lake Harbor United Methodist Church. She sang in the choir, was in the Women’s Bible Study, the Prayer Group, Thinking of You and was former Chairwoman of the Memorial Garden Committee. She married Mr. Ralph Platt at Lake Harbor U.M.C. in 2001. SURVIVORS: Husband, Ralph Platt of Norton Shores; 3 children, Cynthia K. (Kenneth) Berman of Findlay, OH, Susan Y. (Mark) Graves of Norton Shores and Harold F. (Teresa) Landers of Windham, ME; 2 step-children, Lynn (Nicholas) Vanderberg and Richard (Laura) Platt both of Norton Shores; 11 grandchildren, Jeremy and Kimberly, Jennifer and Andrew, Jared and Angela, Lance, John and Alex, Erin and Leigh; 2 great-grandchildren, Jadyn and Elliott. The memorial service for Mrs. Platt will be held at 11:00 A.M., Thursday, December 27, 2007 at Lake Harbor United Methodist Church with Rev. Mark R. Erbes officiating. She will be laid to rest in the church memorial garden. Those desiring an expression of sympathy are asked to consider Lake Harbor United Methodist Church or Harbor Hospice.
