Catherine D. Van Andel's Obituary
Mrs. Catherine D. Van Andel, age 91, passed away Friday morning, June 12, 2015. She was born May 12, 1924 in Holland, MI to Gerrit and Jennie (Veele) Veurink. Catherine was a 1942 graduate of Muskegon High School. She then earned a certificate in dental hygiene and worked as a Dental Hygienist for many years in the Muskegon area. On October 3, 1945 she married Dr. Claude A. Van Andel in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on October 31, 2012. Mrs. Van Andel was a member of Forest Park Covenant Church and along with her husband, Dr. Claude, co-partnered in the Tract Ministry and reached millions of people worldwide. SURVIVORS include her daughter, Barbara (Dr. Kirk) Smith of Highland Beach, FL; sons, David (Peggy) Van Andel of Norton Shores, MI, and Daniel (Cheryl) Van Andel of Ada, MI; six grandchildren, Chris (Deanna) Collins of Norton Shores, MI, Elizabeth Fichtman of Charlotte, NC, Tim (Jennifer) Van Andel of Jenison, MI, Dr. Rob (Dr. Jennifer) Collins of Florida, Catherine Collins of Charlotte, NC, and Christy (Michael) Sanchez of Grand Rapids, MI; nine great-grandchildren; brother, Gordon Veurink of Spring Lake; son-in-law, John C. Smith of Grand Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Nancy Smith; brother, Wally Veurink; 2 sisters, Jerene Brown and Nellie Bytwerk. SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Friday, June 19, 2015 at the The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100, with Rev. Wally Coots officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place in Norton Cemetery. MEMORIALS to Teen Challenge will be appreciated.
