Celia Rose Pelton's Obituary
Celia Rose Pelton, age 85, of Spring Lake went Home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, October 6, 2008. She was born to Henry and Gertrude (VanderVeen) Veeneman in Coopersville, Michigan on March 14, 1923. She married Archie Pelton on July 31, 1942. They celebrated sixty-six years of marriage in July, 2008.
Celia was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was an excellent cook and made everyone feel welcome in her home. She enjoyed doing handwork, could play hymns on the organ by the hour, and enjoyed beating family members playing Yahtzee. She was an accomplished artist and had painted many oil paintings through the years that the family treasures. She corresponded with relatives in the Netherlands for over sixty years and traveled to Europe to visit them several times. Celia enjoyed reading and kept personal journals for many years. Celia was also a member of the Second Reformed Church.
Celia leaves behind her husband, Archie, and two daughters; Judy (Mahlon) Scherf and Bonnie (Bernard) Laarman of Grand Haven. She also leaves behind a special nephew, Roger Corwin of Grand Rapids who she thought of as a son. She will be missed by 33 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; and 9 great-great grandchildren. Celia has two sisters, Minnie (Henry) Doornbos and Nellie Walt; a brother Frank (Gloria) Veeneman of Coopersville. She has a sister-in-law; Gertrude Veeneman of Grand Rapids; one brother-in-law , Cort Pelton of Baldwin; sisters-in-law Lucille (Frank) Parcheta and Anna Pelton of Grand Haven Township, and Nelma Pelton of Stuttgart, Arkansas. She also had many nephews and nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Harold Veeneman and George Veeneman; brothers-in-law; Warren Walt, John Pelton, and James Pelton.
Cremation has taken place and a private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests consideration of memorials in Celia’s name to Love, Inc., Grand Haven, Michigan. Share memories with the family at their online guest book at www.vbkfuneralhome.com.
