Charlene Teresa Thomas' Obituary
Charlene Teresa Thomas, age 86, of Grand Haven and formerly of Spring Lake and Columbus, Ohio passed away on Friday, May 16, 2014 at Grand Pines Assisted Living Center. She was born on October 1, 1927 in Columbus, Ohio to Charles and Anna (O’Rourke) Stanton.
Charlene married George Philip Thomas on June 25, 1949 in Columbus and together they raised ten children. She was a member at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spring Lake. Charlene enjoyed bowling, bingo, crossword puzzles, casino slots and having lunch with her friends. She especially loved spending time with her many children and grandchildren.
She is lovingly remembered by her husband, George of nearly 65 years; one daughter, Grace (Denny) Cherette of Grand Haven; nine sons: George “Stan” (Karen) of Parma, Ohio, Dan (Susan) of Kentwood, Mike (Nance Longworth) of Cornelius, North Carolina, Joseph (JoAnne) of Grand Haven, Jeff (Marcia) of Powell, Ohio, Pete (Sandi) of San Diego, California, Jim (Jayne) of Shelby Twp., Patrick (Sarah Swanson) of Ann Arbor, and Steve (Libby) of Oak Park, Illinois. Charlene is also survived by 21 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and her sister, Suzanne (Henry) Winn of Boston, Massachusetts. She was preceded in death by her son, Timothy “Timmy” Thomas in 1959; two sisters, Anna Mary Dohogne, and Marge Driscoll; and her brother, Charles “Bill” Stanton.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Tuesday, May 20, 2014, at 1:00 p.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Spring Lake with Rev. Fr. Daniel DePew officiating. Visitation will be held on Monday from 4-9 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7 p.m. at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Spring Lake. Interment will be in Spring Lake Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions to Achievement Centers for Children or Hospice of North Ottawa Community are appreciated.
