Charles "Chuck" Blackmer's Obituary
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our father, Charles (Chuck) Irvine Blackmer Jr, age 83 who passed away peacefully on 4/5/2025, in his home surrounded by his loved ones. Chuck was born on May 28,1941 in Grand Haven, Michigan to parents Charles Irvine and Dorothy Ruth (Nietring) Blackmer. He was a graduate of Grand Haven High School, class of 1958. Chuck proudly served his country as a Master Sergeant in the United States Army, he was a member of Special Forces, Airborne jump master, expert marksmen, demolitions expert and resident bad ass. He taught engineering at the School of Mines & Technology in SD and eventually retired after 22 years of distinguished service to his country. After his military retirement he went to work for Burns Security and then ended his working career with his retirement from the Careerline Tech Center. Chuck was an avid outdoorsman who found joy in swimming, fishing, golfing, sailing, camping, hunting and spending time outdoors with his dogs. He was a skilled backyard mechanic (who could fix just about anything), marksman and lifelong gun enthusiast, he was passionate about politics, he was known for his sharp knowledge and steady hand. He was a devoted father, husband, grandfather, great- grandfather, loyal friend, and a man of great strength. He lived his life with a quiet dignity, always putting his family first and offering his wisdom (solicited or otherwise) to those he loved.
He is survived by his 4 daughters. Deborah (Ronald) Thompson of Grand Haven, Shirley (Robert) Witte of Fruitport, Michele Gannon of Florida, Rena’ (Benjamin) Chartier of Norton Shores, Grandchildren John (Randee) Baker, Joshua Baker, Nicole (Jaime) Ayala, Kyle (Toni) Witte, Abbey Sachteleben, Trenton Gannon, Steven (Maddie) Chartier, Tucker Chartier and Great Grandchildren Bryson, Braylee, Easton, Jericho, Justice, Raegan, Xavier, Karsen, Odin, Liam, Emmett, Logan, a sister Judy Maracek of Fruitport and a step-sister Amy (Bruce) Cleveland of Spring Lake. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 61 years Shirley Ann (Travis) Blackmer, his parents Charles and Dorothy Ruth (Nietring) Blackmer.
His sisters Janice Leeson, Dorthy Ruth Baird, brothers Michael Blackmer, Richard (Ted) Blackmer, and Anthony (Tony) Gajdos.
Following his wishes cremation has taken place and there will not be any services at this time.
