Charles L. "Chuck" Carlson Sr.'s Obituary
Mr. Charles L. “Chuck” Carlson Sr., age 97, shed his weary body and stepped into eternity on Sunday, January 18, 2026. He was born in Muskegon, Michigan on January 15, 1929 to Earnest and Hulda (Johnson) Carlson. Chuck began working on his family farm at just 10 years old, instilling in him a lifelong work ethic rooted in hard work and dedication. That commitment stayed with him throughout his life, as he continued cutting his own grass and maintaining his home well into his 90s. He proudly served his country as a veteran of the United States Army, stationed in Germany during the Korean War. Chuck retired from Geerpres, Inc in 1998 after 37 years of dedicated service, during which time he often worked various additional jobs. He enjoyed golfing and, following retirement, became a voracious reader with a special interest in World War II history. Chuck lived his life guided by fairness and honesty, always treating others with compassion and care. Known for his caring heart, flirty attitude, and respectful nature, Chuck developed a collection of special “girlfriends” whom he held near and dear, especially his two favorite blondes. In his later years, Chuck often spoke of how much he missed his dad, and his family now rejoices knowing they are reunited once again. Chuck was a faithful member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church. On September 5, 1980, he married the love of his life, Karin Sue Boertman, and together they shared a beautiful 45-year marriage filled with love and devotion. Karin survives him along with three children, Sherri Mey, Randy (Rhonda) Carlson, and Carla DeWall; seven grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; one great-great-granddaughter; two brothers, Richard Carlson and Larry Carlson; two sisters, Eileen Ulrey and Dawn Bowen; and many loving nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Charles L. “Chuck” Carlson Jr.; and siblings, Bud Carlson, Rita Carlson, Milton Carlson, Dennis Carlson, and Lois Strohm. VISITATION will be held from 2-4 PM Sunday, January 25, 2026 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444. FUNERAL SERVICES will be 11:00 AM Monday, January 26, 2026 at The Lee Chapel with Pastor Bill Uetricht officiating. MEMORIALS in memory of Chuck may be directed to First Evangelical Lutheran Church.
