Charles E. Cleveland's Obituary
Charles E. Cleveland, age 78, of Fruitport and formerly of Irons, MI, passed away Sunday, June 24, 2012, at his home in Irons. He was born February 24, 1934, in Muskegon to Floyd and Catherine (Christianson) Cleveland, and he married the former Jacqueline Dains on August 27, 1955, in Yuma, AZ.
Mr. Cleveland proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps during the Korean War and was a lifetime member of the VFW Sgt. Alvin Jonker Post 2326 of Grand Haven. He had been employed as a maintenance worker at Bastian Blessing, and had served on the Board of Trustees for Peacock Township during his time in Irons. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, camping, helping other people, and especially spending time with his family.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Jackie; his daughter, Birdella (Rick) Hawkins of Spring Lake; three sons: Charles L. Cleveland of Muskegon, Russell (Pamela) Cleveland of Nunica, and Wesley (Robin) Cleveland of West Olive; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; a sister, Ernestine Cleveland of Twin Lake, MI; a brother, Gene (Lorie) Cleveland of Chicago; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a sister, Darlene Smith; and three brothers, Darrell, Leroy, and Kyren Cleveland.
The funeral service for Charles will be held at 11:00 AM Thursday, June 28, 2012, at Ferrysburg Community Church, 17785 Mohawk Dr., Spring Lake, MI, with Rev. Al Hoksbergen officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the church. Military rites will be provided by the VFW Sgt. Alvin Jonker Post 2326 Honor Guard.
