Mr. Charles Lee Compton's Obituary
Mr. Charles Lee Compton, age 80, passed away during his travels, Wednesday April 24, 2019, in Chapel Hill, NC. “Lee” was born December 18, 1938 in Muskegon to Charles S. and Thelma K. (Burr) Compton. He married the former Dorothy Mae Johnson on April 21, 1956 in Muskegon and she preceded him in death on April 14, 2012. Lee worked at Brunswick Corporation for 44 years, retiring in 2001. He loved to travel, camp, hunt, and fish. Lee was a great storyteller and had a good story for every occasion. He was a loyal, dedicated husband, father, grandfather, and friend who loved his family above all and will be missed by his companion and friend, Mary Margaret Strong; his children, Charles Arthur (Robin) Compton, Gloria Dawn (Al) Gonzalez, Loretta Ann (Kenneth) Sokolowski, James Lee (Deanna) Compton, and Sheila Rae (Bob) Hayes; 11 grandchildren, Kristy (Chris) Chiras, Holley (Vincent) Waddell, Jackie (Shaun) Sickle, Kari (Kevin) Butcher, Carmen (Eddy) Lima, Joseph (Christina) Sokolowski, Daniel (Kim) Sokolowski, Roland Compton, Anna Compton, Jared Compton and Dawn (Chad) Medendorp; 15 great-grandchildren and one on the way; 2 sisters, Florence Mattfolk and Katherine (Dennis) Smith; and several nieces and nephews. Lee was also preceded in death by his parents; brother, Ronald; sister-in-law, Judy Compton; and brother-in-law, John Mattfolk. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11 AM Thursday, May 2, 2019 at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St. 798-1100. Lee’s nephew, Phil Compton will be officiating. VISITATION will be from 6-8 PM Wednesday, May 1 and one hour prior to the service (10-11 AM) on Thursday at the funeral home. Interment will be in Laketon Township Cemetery.
