Charles Thomas Hamel's Obituary
Charles Thomas (Tom) Hamel, of Muskegon, MI, passed away on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at home, after a short battle with cancer. He was born on September 17, 1938, to James and Dorothy (Hall) Hamel in Muskegon, MI. Tom graduated from Muskegon High School in 1956. He was drafted and served in the Army from 1962-1967. After the military, Tom went on and earned his associate’s degree in accounting through Baker College of Muskegon. Tom worked for CWC Textron for over 34 years, until his retirement.
Tom married Theda Sylvia Blackmar on August 20, 1966. They were married for almost 60 years, and they share three children together: Troy, Jim, and Amy. In past years, Tom and Theda enjoyed traveling, with a couple exciting cruises to Alaska and Mexico. Mackinac Island and Mackinaw City were also places they loved to visit.
Tom is survived by his loving family, his wife of 59 years, Theda; two children, Jim and Amy (John); five grandchildren; Rebecca (Cruz), Makayla (Hunter), Elizabeth (Brenden), Vincent Jr. (Aryan), and Tyler (Tiara); five great-grandchildren, Alannah, Ajax, Lucy, Wilder and Fearynn; and daughter-in-law, Chris. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Dorothy Hamel; eldest son, Troy, in 2021; great-granddaughter, Anya, in 2025; father-in-law, Virgil Blackmar; and mother-in-law, Maybell (Betty) Blackmar.
The family would like to give a heartfelt thank you to Harbor Hospice for their wonderful care of our husband, dad, grandpa and great-grandpa.
