Charles Hekkema's Obituary
Mr. Charles Hekkema, age 89, died Wednesday evening, March 15, 2006. He was born August 21, 1916 in Muskegon and had been a life resident of the area. Mr. Hekkema was a WWII U.S. Army Veteran, a life-time member of the Holton American Legion Post 397, and a member of the VFW Post 8846 and White Cloud Eagles. He worked many years for S.D. Warren before retiring in 1980. Mr. Hekkema was an avid rider and enthusiast of Harley-Davidson motorcycles. On January 28, 1942, he married the former Geraldine M. Dykema in Muskegon and she preceded him in death on March 2, 1994. SURVIVORS include 5 children, Charlene (Doyle) Cook, Susan (Richard) Romberger, Cindy (Mike) Colwell, James (Cris) Hekkema, Gerald Hekkema; 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-granddaughter; and the family pet, Harley. PRIVATE FAMILY SERVICES WILL BE HELD. Burial will take place in Twin Lake Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Cancer Society or Hospice of Muskegon/Oceana.
