Charles W. "Chuck" Kitchka's Obituary
Charles W. “Chuck” Kitchka, age 78, passed away Monday, February 22, 2021. He was born July 21, 1942 in Muskegon to Charles and Gladys (Baldwin) Kitchka and was a lifelong resident of the area. Chuck graduated from Muskegon Heights High School Class of 1960. Chuck was a veteran of the U.S. Navy stationed aboard the USS Enterprise during the Cuban Missile Crisis. On November 30, 1963, he married Sheila M. Kane at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception in Muskegon. Chuck earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Michigan State University. He worked 10 years as a Mechanical Engineer in Research and Development for Brunswick Corp. He later worked 30 years as a Quality Control Manager for American Coil Spring and retired in 2003. He was one of the founding families at Prince of Peace Catholic Church in North Muskegon where he was very active and served on the Pastoral Council, was a guitarist in one of the first music groups, served as a lector at Masses and attended the Bible Study. Chuck was also a member of the Northside Jaycees. Chuck was a longtime member of the Lakeshore Chorus of Barbershop Quartets with the Pioneer District. He was a faithful MSU Spartan fan. Family was very important to him. He loved taking car rides to watch his grandkid’s sporting events. Survivors include his loving wife of 57 years, Sheila; 3 children, Denise Kane, Kim (Chuck) Foster, Patrick (Jennifer) Kitchka; 8 grandchildren, Dane Witham, Samantha (Jason) Hinkle, Stephanie (fiancé, Kyle Ferguson) Witham, Corinne Witham, Ryan Foster, Zachary Foster, Owen Kitchka, Lillian Kitchka; 2 great-grandchildren, Brady and Maeve Hinkle; 4 brothers, John (Wanda) Kitchka, Michael Kitchka, Robert Kitchka, David Kitchka; and 2 brothers-in-law, Dennis (Patty) Kane, Kevin (Eilene) Kane. He was preceded in death by his parents. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 11:00 AM Friday, February 26, 2021 at Prince of Peace Catholic Church (1110 Dykstra Rd) with the Rev. Fr. Godfrey Onyekwere presiding. Visitation will be held one hour prior to Mass, 10-11AM Friday at the church. Interment will take place at Laketon Township Cemetery. Due to the Lenten Season, in lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Memorial Fund at Prince of Peace Catholic Church.
