Charles "Chuck" B. Nelson's Obituary
Charles “Chuck” B. Nelson, age 83, of Grand Haven died Sunday, March 11, 2012 at home. He was born July 25, 1928, in Grand Haven to Carl and Kathryn (Martin) Nelson. Chuck married the former Marie Leona Potter on April 28, 1962 in Muskegon, Michigan.
Chuck served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. He opened the Grand Haven Pronto Pup stand on May 30, 1947, a business he enjoyed operating for many years. He was a member of the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post #28 of Grand Haven, Sgt. Alvin Jonker V.F.W. Post #2326 of Grand Haven, a Life Member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles of Grand Haven Aerie #925. Chuck served his community on numerous City of Grand Haven boards and committees. He also played the accordion in the “Garbage Can Band,” and loved working on his cars. Chuck also enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and doing a “12 ounce curl.”
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Marie; son, Carl (Nancy) Nelson of Grand Haven; step-daughter, Sindee (Joe) Maxwell of Grand Haven; step-son, James (Jennifer) Starnes of Palm Desert, California; 11 grandchildren: Lindsey, Jaclyn, Shannon, Jessica, Bridgette, Christopher, Erica, Ian, Samantha, Sabrina, and Adam; 6 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Don (Jane) Nelson of Grand Haven. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial open house will be held on Thursday, March 29, 2012 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post # 28 in Grand Haven. Full Military rites will be accorded under the auspices of the American Legion Post #28. Memorial contributions to Hospice of North Ottawa Community are appreciated.
