Charles "Chuck" R. Haines' Obituary
Mr. Charles “Chuck” R. Haines, age 82, passed away Monday, January 2, 2012 at his home. He was born January 11, 1929 in Fostoria, OH to Charles W. and Carrie A. (Rounds) Haines and lived most of his life in the Muskegon area. Chuck was a veteran of the U.S. Navy. On October 9, 1954, he married the love of his life, the former Ellen E. Gibson, in Muskegon and she survives him. He worked 13 years for Campbell, Wyant & Cannon Foundry in time keeping and also time study. He retired in 1992 after working 13 years as a welder for Neway-Anchorlok. Chuck was an avid reader and in his spare time enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, gardening, and woodworking. He played the clarinet for his own enjoyment and also enjoyed a good game of cribbage. Chuck coached little league when his boys were younger and even played backyard ice hockey with them. Later, he played softball for Continental Motors League. Chuck attended Forest Park Covenant Church and was also a member of the Neway Retiree Breakfast Group. Along with his wife, Ellen, he is survived by 2 sons, Steven (Lisa) Haines and David (Jeanine) Haines both of Norton Shores; 5 grandchildren, Rebecca, Laura, Brooke, Gregory, and Kiersten Haines; 1 sister, Betty (George) Pressler of Muskegon; 1 brother-in-law, Gordon (Kay) Gibson of West Olive; several nieces and nephews; and his companion Brittney spaniel, “Molly”. He was preceded in death by his parents; and 3 sisters, Laura Haines, Thelma VanderStelt, and Eileen Hill. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Friday, January 6, 2012, at Forest Park Covenant Church (3815 Henry St.) with Pastor Russ Carlson officiating. INTERMENT will take place at Lakeside Cemetery with military honors offered by the Muskegon County Council of Veterans. VISITATION will be 5-8 PM Thursday at The Walburn Chapel, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. (231) 759-8565. Visitation will also be held 10-11 AM Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Mona Shores High School Band Scholarship Fund.
