Charles H. Brokstad's Obituary
Mr. Charles Henry Brokstad, 84, passed peacefully at home surrounded by his loving family following a brief illness. He was born on May 18, 1925 to Herbert and Sigred (Olsen) Brokstad in Frankfort, MI. Charles retired from Teledyne Continental in 1985. Prior to that he worked as a fireman on locomotives and Great Lakes car ferries. In his spare time he enjoyed music, traveling and fishing. Charles proudly served his country during WWII in the Pacific with the US Navy. He later became a member of American Legion Post 225. On July 20, 1948, he married Leila (Bockstanz) in Saginaw, MI. Besides his beloved wife, Charles is survived by 5 children; Craig Brokstad, Jeanne (John) Jones, Sandy (John) Martin, Chuck (Kendra) Brokstad and Cyndi (Tim) Boes; 11 grandchildren and 8.5 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Herbert, granddaughter Alicia Boes, and sister Lois Dahringer. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held at 11 AM Friday, March 5, 2010, at Lakeside Baptist Church (2250 Denmark St) with Pastor Ken Shady of Grand Haven Gospel Church officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 5 – 7 PM Thursday at The Walburn Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes 1547 W. Sherman Blvd. 231-759-8565 MEMORIALS to Lakeside Baptist Church or Harbor Hospice would be appreciated. Burial will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
