Charles Junior Michael's Obituary
Charles Junior Michael, age 83, of Spring Lake died Sunday April 10, 2011 at home. He was born May 24, 1927, in Grand Haven to Charles Vernon and Effie Lyle (Fisher) Michael. Charles married the former Geraldine Donnie DeWitt on March 22, 1947 in Spring Lake, Michigan.
Charles served his country in WWII, and was a member of the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post# 28 in Grand Haven. Charles worked at Oldberg Manufacturing as a spot welder for 35 years, and at Eagle Ottawa Leather for 10 years. He was well known as a practical joker, who loved to tease everyone especially the girls in his family. Charles loved to golf and received a trophy for his hole in one. Charles loved watching golf, baseball, and football on television. Charles loved being a summer resident at John Gurney Park in Hart, Michigan.
He is lovingly survived by his wife, Geraldine “Gerry”; two daughters, Debbie (Mike) Dreese of Ludington and Kathy Michael of Spring Lake; three sons, Larry Michael of Spring Lake and Terry (Ike) Michael of Hudsonville and Mark (Lynda) Michael of Mesa, Arizona; 4 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren; brother Vernon (Helen) Michael of Coopersville; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters, Doris Ruggles and Beverly Farren; brother Duane Michael.
The service for Charles will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, April 15, 2011, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven with Rev. Dan Anderson officiating. Friends may meet the family from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday April 14, 2011 at the funeral home in Grand Haven. Military rites will be accorded Charles by the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post #28. Memorial contributions to Hospice of North Ottawa Community or the American Legion Charles A. Conklin Post #28 of Grand Haven are appreciated.
