Christine Mary Stewart's Obituary
Christine Mary “Chris” Stewart, age 67, passed away Sunday morning, March 24, 2019 surrounded by her loving family – especially her grandkids. She was born May 16, 1951 in Petoskey, MI to Leo and Anna (Jarema) Makarewicz and lived in the Muskegon area most of her life. She received her Bachelor of Nursing degree from St. Mary’s Hospital in Grand Rapids and had worked 44 years as a Registered Nurse for Muskegon General Hospital and retired in 2016 from Hackley Hospital. On August 7, 1971, she married Jon P. Stewart in Elmira, MI and he survives her. Chris was an active member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and her first love was Our Lord and attending daily Mass. She was also a long-time member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas Court #799 and the Sacred Heart Bible Study. Chris supported Muskegon County Right to Life and the Baby Pantry of Catholic Charities West Michigan. Chris and Jon together accomplished many triathlons and cycling events, including riding across the United States. Chris ran the Chicago Marathon, and with Jon, she ran many half-marathons, 5k and 10k races. Chris was a life member of the Muskegon Bowmen, the Michigan Long Bow Association, and the Michigan Bow Hunters. Survivors include her husband, Jon Stewart; her son, Chad (Christine) Stewart; her beloved grandkids, Jonathan, Jeb, Joanna, Jeremiah, Jacob, and Josias; her mother, Anna Makarewicz; 2 sisters, Elaine Hart, Cindy (Carey) Charboneau; 1 brother, Sam (Marge) Makarewicz; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her father, Leo Makarewicz. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 12:10 PM Thursday, March 28, 2019 at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church (239 W. Clay Avenue) with the Rev. Fr. Matthew J. Barnum presiding. Interment will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. Visitation will be held 5-8 PM Wednesday at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St., (231) 798-1100 where the Rosary will be prayed at 7:30 PM Wednesday evening.
