Clara D. Ledinsky's Obituary
Clara D. Ledinsky, age 94, of Grand Haven passed away Monday, February 5, 2007, at a local care facility. She was born October 14, 1912, to Frank and Cora Edith (Weston) Alderman in Manton, MI, and she married James P. Ledinsky on May 4, 1930, in Grand Haven. He preceded her in death in March of 1975.
Clara moved to Grand Haven in 1929 and was very involved in civic affairs in the Tri-Cities area. She was a member of the Woman’s Club for over 60 years, having served as its president in 1955, and she was the recipient of its Volunteer of the Year Award in 1989. She was Vice President and a board member of the Ottawa County Red Cross, and she served three times as a member of the Board of Deacons at First Presbyterian Church. She also served as a member of the Tri-Cities Girl Scouts Council and the Tri-Cities Drug Abuse Council. Clara also spent many years as a legal guardian for local elderly, and she was proud to be a 10th generation descendent of Roger Williams, the founder and governor of Rhode Island. She enjoyed painting with water colors and playing bridge.
Clara is survived by a daughter, Dawn (Steve) Roberts of Des Moines, IA; a son, James (Barbara) Ledinsky of Barrington, IL; a daughter-in-law, Janice Ledinsky of Spring Lake; a “daughter/niece,” Phyllis (Howard) Behm of West Olive; 6 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, James, Clara was preceded in death by a son, Dale, on June 25, 2006.
The service for Clara will be held 10:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 13, 2007, at First Presbyterian Church of Grand Haven with Rev. Karin Fowler officiating. Friends may meet the family 4-6 p.m. Monday, February 12, at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Grand Haven. Interment will be in Lake Forest Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the GFWC Woman’s Club of Grand Haven Scholarship Fund at the Grand Haven Area Community Foundation, First Presbyterian Church of Grand Haven, the Tri-Cities Historical Museum, or a local charity of choice.
