Clare "Pink" South's Obituary
Mr. Clare “Pink” South, age 78, of Grand Haven passed away Friday, September 6, 2024. He was born July 16, 1946 in Moylan, Minnesota to Russell and Wilma (Peters) South. On August 26, 2000 he married JoAnne Darling in Grand Haven, MI.
Clare graduated from Zeeland High School and attended Ferris State University where he received his degree in drafting. He served his country with the US Marines Corps and was a leader in the Boy Scouts for 45 years. Clare was very methodical with his details in his drafting projects, and in his spare time he loved wood-working. Clare adored his wife JoAnne and together they enjoyed camping adventures with friends and family. They loved the Lord and shared the verse: Jeremiah 29:11.
He is survived by his wife of 24 years, JoAnne South. Together they shared 6 children: Ashley (Todd) VanDam, Merila (Joe) Vaughn, Aaron (Kristen) South, Natalie (Will) VanderZwaag, April (David) Olson, and Amber Brink. His grandchildren were his pride and joy and include: Austin, Haleigh, Michael, Tyler, Justin, Lauren, Megan, Makayla, Chloe, Nicholas, Remee, and Bernadette. His Great Grandchildren were special blessings and include: Parker, Owen, Ryder, Garritt, Wesson, and Rhett. He is survived by his sister, Wilma (George) Hawkins. Preceded in death by his brothers Robert and Harley South.
A celebration of life luncheon will be held 11 AM – 1 PM Saturday, September 14, 2024, at the Grand Haven Gospel Chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in memory of Clare may be given to GiveSendGo-Clare South. Interment will take place at Fort Custer National Cemetery later this year.
