Clarence Medema's Obituary
Clarence Medema, age 89, went to be with his heavenly Father on Sunday, August 18, 2019. He was born on August 12, 1930 to Ralph and Grace (Hoekenga) Medema in Muskegon. Clarence will be remembered as being a loving and caring husband, father, and grandfather. He has been a very involved member of Fifth Reformed Church for over 60 years. On May 16, 1964, he married Ilene Dewind and they were married for 53 years. They have two children, Kristi and Mike. Clarence served in the United States Army for 2 years during the Korean War. He worked for Dana Printing for 40 years and also worked for Custom Service Printers for 15 years. He enjoyed staying active with bicycling, walking, and coaching Little League and Fifth Reformed Church softball. He loved the Muskegon Big Reds athletics, the Michigan Wolverines football and basketball teams, and the Detroit Lions and Tigers. He had a green thumb when it came to gardening and flowers. Cucumbers, tomatoes, roses, and geraniums were his specialty. Clarence is survived by his children: Kristi DeVerney and Mike (Heather) Medema; grandchildren: Blake and Kole DeVerney, Annalise and Case Medema; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ilene, his parents, Ralph and Grace Medema, his sister, Sarah Medema, his brothers, John (Jane) Medema, Pete (June) Medema, Ralph (Ret) Medema, Jim (Donna) Medema, and nephews, Chuck and Dick Medema. A VISITATION for Clarence will take place Thursday, August 22, 2019 from 5-8pm at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey Street, Norton Shores, MI 49444 231-798-1100. A CELEBRATION OF CLARENCE’S LIFE will take place Friday, August 23, 2019 at 11:00 AM at Fifth Reformed Church (2330 Holton Road, Muskegon) with visitation one hour prior to service at church. Burial will take place in Oakwood Cemetery in Muskegon. The family would like to express their utmost gratitude to the staff at American House for their excellent care of Clarence during his time there.
