Mr. Clarence Rice, Jr.'s Obituary
Clarence Rice joined his heavenly family on April 3, 2016 after a period of declining health. He was born on April 11, 1928 to Clarence and Arabel (Burmeister) Rice in Detroit, MI, shortly after he moved to the farm in Moreland, MI. He was known for his strong and deliberate faith in God. As a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, Clarence served many positions including chairman of the congregation and elder. Clarence worked at Shaw-Walker in Muskegon for 42 years; during that time he also worked many evenings for Aid Association for Lutherans helping Muskegon area Lutherans. He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Alverna (Schamber); children, Deborah (Kenneth) Luytjes, Bruce (Mari) Rice, Brian (Jennifer) Rice; grandchildren, Kelly (Ben) Lutz, Erin (Matthew) DeFouw, Eric (Jeannine) Rice, Jennifer (Rick) Murray, Brendan, Jared; great-grandchild, Ellie Murray; brothers, David (Judy) Rice, Dennis (Sue) Rice; sisters, Berdena Regeczi, Marilyn Hepler. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Sam Rice; sister, Shirley Osbun. A FUNERAL SERVICE for Clarence will be held on Tuesday, April 12, 2016 at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church (1215 E Apple Ave.) at 11:00 AM. VISITATION with the family will take place on Monday, April 11, 2016 from 5:00 to 7:00 PM at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 E. Apple Ave. (231-726-5210) and an hour prior to services at church. Burial will take place in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. For a more lasting memory, the family asks you to look to either Our Redeemer Lutheran Church or the Alzheimer’s Association for a contribution in Clarence’s name.
