Clarence VanderStelt's Obituary
Mr. Clarence VanderStelt, age 82, died Thursday evening, April 15, 2004. He was born July 16, 1921 in Muskegon to Herbert and Dena (Baker) VanderStelt and had been a life resident. Mr. VanderStelt was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII during the Pacific Theater, was a member of the Muskegon American Legion, and a life member of the VFW Post #3734. He was a police officer for the City of Muskegon for 32 years, before retiring in 1978, and was a member of the Muskegon Fraternal Order of Police Charles Hammond Lodge #99. Mr. VanderStelt attended Hope Reformed Church, and had been a former member of East Muskegon Christian Reformed Church. On June 14, 1946, he married the former Martha “Martie” TenBrink in Muskegon and she survives him along with 2 sons, C. Dennis (Carole) VanderStelt of Norton Shores, Larry VanderStelt of Grandville; 5 grandchildren, Troy, Todd, Trent, Tara, Jenna; and many nieces and nephews. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, April 24, 2004 at Hope Reformed Church with Rev. Steven Hyma officiating. Burial will be in Restlawn Cemetery. VISITATION with the family will be from 10-11:00 AM Saturday morning at the church. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Police Memorial of Muskegon County.
