Claude Edgar Snyder's Obituary
Claude Edgar Snyder, age 94, of Byron Center formerly of Spring Lake, passed away Tuesday, September 11, 2018, at Railside Senior Living in Byron Center. He was born July 25, 1924, in Grand Haven to Forrest and Mable (McMillan) Snyder. He married the former Betty Metzler on April 1, 1946, in Grand Haven, she preceded him in death on January 25, 2005.
Claude graduated from Coopersville High School. He worked as a buffer at Doehler Jarvis (National Lead) for 30 years before retiring. Claude was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Grand Haven, an avid Detroit Tigers fan, loved deer hunting, camping, and playing the harmonica in his younger days.
He is lovingly remembered by three daughters: Joyce Ondersma of Byron Center, Sue Gilbert of Ferrysburg, and Carol (Richard) Cichon of Grand Rapids; six grandchildren: Scott Gilbert, Joanne (Sean) Flemming, Eric (Heather) Cichon, Lori (Nichole) Bray, Jen (Ross) VanWoerkom, Christine (Rob) Woodman; seven great-grandchildren: Ashley Cichon, Alex Cichon, Braelyn Flemming, Tytan Flemming, Jack VanWoerkom, Luke VanWoerkom, and Reid Woodman; his sister-in-law, Fran Snyder of Ferrysburg; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Forrest Snyder, Jr. and Lee Snyder.
The funeral service for Claude will be held at 11:00 a.m. Monday, September 17, 2018, at Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services – The VanZantwick Chapel with Rev. Troy Hauser Brydon officiating. Friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Interment will be in Allendale Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions to First Presbyterian Church of Grand Haven or Hospice of North Ottawa Community are appreciated.
