Clayton "Nick" Nicholes' Obituary
Clayton “Nick” Nicholes, age 94, passed away Monday morning, October 12, 2015. He was born February 12, 1921 in Muskegon to Arthur and Esther (Mangleson) Nicholes. Nick grew up in Muskegon before moving to Royal Oak, where he spent 25 years. After retirement he moved to Florida for 27 years before making it back to Muskegon. Mr. Nicholes was a U.S. Navy Veteran of WWII and on October 23, 1943 married the former Adelle Burgess in Muskegon. He worked as a fireman for the Royal Oak Fire Department where he had risen in rank to Chief before retiring in 1976. Mr. Nicholes was a life member of the Masons and a member of the Royal Oak Fireman’s Retirement Club. He enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing, and long walks. He also coached and played hockey while in Royal Oak and was a member of Hope Reformed Church here in Muskegon. SURVIVORS include his wife of 71 years, Adelle; 2 daughters: Judy Nicholes of Lambertville, MI, Kathy (Clayton) Trible of Holland; 5 grandchildren: Jim (Tricia) Nault, John (Katie) Nault; Lauren (Jan) Trible-Laucht, Andrea (Steve) Meyer, Erin (Mario) Paone; 5 great-grandchildren: Mason, Madelyn, Makenna, Willem, and Estelle; 2 brothers: Harold Nichols of Muskegon and Joseph Nichols of Leonard, MI. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Friday, October 16, 2015 at Hope Reformed Church with the Rev. Steven Hyma officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place in Restlawn Cemetery. MEMORIALS to Mercy VNS & Hospice or Hope Reformed Church will be appreciated.
